Summary Welcome back, Outer Banks. We’ve missed you! This recap of Netflix’s Outer Banks season 2, episode 1, “The Gold,” contains significant spoilers. Enjoy season 1 of Outer Banks? The fun coming-of-age drama is back for a second season. What happened after John B and Sarah survived the storm? More importantly, will John B finally get a well-deserved punch to the face? Let’s hope so. Season 1 ended on a banger, so it’s time to see if Season 2 can carry on that momentum. Wanna Be a Pogue for Life? P4L Season 1 starts with Kie, JJ, and Pope carving a heart in memory of John B and Sarah, who they still believe died in the storm that happened in episode 10 of season 1. Unbeknown to them, John B and Sarah are hiding on a boat that’s on its way to Nassau, Bahamas. He asks Sarah if she wants to marry him, but as he has no prospects, it’s a resounding no. Clever girl. However, she is more interested in becoming a “Pogue for Life”, P4L. Also on the ship is captain Terrance. He’s handed John B’s wanted leaflet which details a reward of $50,000. As he has six kinds of contraband on board the ship, Terrance will wait until they reach Nassau before he hands them to the police and gets his reward. Back in the Outer Banks, Pope and Kie spray “murderer” on Rafe’s house. Proving she’s not always the brightest, Kie screams to Rafe that he’s a murderer. As they were vandalizing the house secretly, it would have been common sense for Kie to keep her mouth shut. Meanwhile, whilst serving customers and overhearing them state that John B deserved to die, JJ has an outburst and shouts to them all that Rafe is the one who killed Sheriff Peterkin. JJ punches one of the customers before using his motorbike to destroy the flower arrangements. It’s one hell of a way to leave after getting yourself fired. When the ship reaches Nassau, John B and Sarah make a run and flee from the police. Promise me you won’t do anything stupid Strolling into a 5* hotel that Sarah’s family attended for years, Sarah pleads with John B to listen to her. Despite the probability that the gold may be at her family’s vacation house, she doesn’t want him going there as it’s too dangerous. But Sarah should know, this is John B she is talking to. Having stolen a phone for a minute, JB sends an image of himself and Sarah to the other JJ, Kie, and Pope. They now know they’re alive! Kill Them Deputy Victor is heavily reprimanded by Ward, who believes he is letting the Pogues get away with vandalizing his property. Rafe, meanwhile, has a simple solution “We should kill them all.” Waking up to find John B missing, she correctly assumes he has gone searching for the gold. She’s quickly captured by the crew. The following morning, Cleo waits for John B and tells him that she will take him to her. No need to spitball; Phase 1 is complete The Pogues decide to plant Pope’s phone in the hope of listening in on conversations between Rafe or Ward. The gang calls Gavin and threatens him as part of their plan. It works. Gavin calls Ward in a panic, and the Pogue’s discover that Gavin kept the gun that Rafe used to kill Sheriff Peterkin. With a meeting planned for Gavin and Ward, the Pogues plan on following. Trouble in Paradise In the Bahamas, Sarah takes Terrance to her family’s house where she will give them the gold, in return that he doesn’t call the cops on her and John B. With Sarah entering the family vacation home and incorrectly entering a pin, Ward and Rose are alerted that someone is inside the property. Sarah eventually enters the correct pin, but as she proves to Terrance that the gold exists, Island Security runs inside the house. With all of them fleeing, Terrance locks Sarah and John B inside as they’re the bait that will slow security down and pave his own escape. John B leads the Island Security upstairs whilst Sarah searches for a pair of hidden keys that are hidden around the property. Although, as soon as she finds them, Terrance steals them and flees away on a boat. Cornered, John B is beaten up by Island Security. In the closing seconds of episode 1, the Island Security video calls Ward. It’s an entertaining episode that is very typical of what Outer Banks had in season 1. In no way is this the most exciting episode that’s ever existed, but it does just enough that its fan base will be pleased to see its return. The ending is strong and will have more audience members jumping straight into episode 2, wondering whether Ward will discover that John B & Sarah are alive. Routledge, who in the Season 2 opener decides that an international manhunt isn’t going to keep him from the Royal Merchant’s gold. The Netflix series’ return is as summery and caper-y as Season 1 was, albeit with a slight bummer of a start The Pogues are grieving, under the impression that John B and girlfriend Sarah perished at sea while trying to escape during the storm that capped the show’s inaugural run. But don’t worry We’ll soon be back to the blunts, bikinis and boats that make this series a frothy summer treat. Read on for the highlights of “The Gold.” SAD POGUES JJ, Kiara and Pope aren’t the only OBXers paying respects at the start of the hour The town gathers for Sheriff Peterkin’s funeral — and of course Ward is there, though the sheriff’s department is suspicious of his involvement in the shooting, and he’s definitely lawyered up in the meantime. The Pogues are handling their grief in different ways Kiara, for instance, spray-paints “MURDERERS” on the Camerons’ wall and then smokes a lot of weed and asks Pope if he wants to hook up. For the record, he totally does. But he knows that she’s in no state to give actual consent, plus, it’s almost time to go back to school. “I went off the rails. I lost my scholarship, and my best friend is dead. Getting high and overcompensating isn’t going to help,” he tells her, waving off the joint she offers. “It helps me,” she says, so very, very high. Meanwhile, JJ gets so angry at a kook in the middle of one of his shifts at the club that he announces that Rafe killed Peterkin, gets into a fight with one of Tapper’s friends and then gets fired. LAYING SUPER LOW’ Somewhere in The Atlantic, Sarah and John B wake up on a ship. The boat they were on is toast, but they’ve been taken in by a crew headed to the Bahamas. The pair has been there for some time, and there’s very little sense of urgency about them; as they cuddle in the early morning, John B asks Sarah if she wants to get married, and she smiles and says no. They’d be a lot more worried if they knew that the crew has gotten wind of the $50,000 reward for finding John B. The captain announces to his team that they’ll turn him in once they arrive in Nassau and split the money. And the lovebirds become aware of this plan roughly about the time that the crew locks them in the bridge just as port officials board the ship. The teens bust a window, escape and run like hell, eventually eluding the cops and hiding out at a fancy hotel in Nassau. And that’s where John B. temporarily swipes a housekeeper’s phone and texts his friends a photo of him and Sarah. Back in North Carolina, the Pogues all receive the text while they’re at school; they slip out of class, call the number to verify that it’s him, then cry happy tears as they celebrate their bud’s resurrection. Before he signs off, John B says he and his lady are “laying super low” in the Bahamas, and he asks them to clear his name in the Peterkin killing so he can come home. And in case you’re wondering, John B returns the phone before the housekeeper even knows it’s missing. So Kiara, Pope and JJ go about getting proof that Rafe — and not John B — killed the sheriff. Their plan? Plant a phone in the car belonging to Ward’s pilot, who saw everything and knows the truth. Kiara calls the man, whose name is Gavin, and freaks him out by saying she knows Rafe was the real killer. As the kids hope, Gavin then calls Ward and says he wants to renegotiate their deal. Turns out, he kept the gun that Ward told him to get rid of, and now he wants triple the cash he was promised, plus Ward’s plane. As a hidden Pope eavesdrops, a highly not-pleased Ward tells Gavin to bring the gun to a meet-up, and he’ll bring the money. GOLDEN HOUR For a short time, life as hotel stowaways is idyllic. Sarah and John B sneak food off room service trays, sleep on pool loungers dragged to a hidden section of the roof and slow-dance in front of the altar as the hotel staff sets up for a wedding. But the kids are very aware of the danger they’re in One night, John B has a nightmare that Wade is choking him and screaming that he can’t take his gold. Remind me What’s the opposite of laying super low? Oh, it’s exactly what John B chooses to do after he wakes up from the bad dream? Cool. While Sarah snoozes on the lounge chair next to him, John B runs over to the Cameron estate, swings himself over the gate and breaks into the house… where he finds the safe full of gold, but can’t open it. Sarah wakes up, notices John B is nowhere to be found and leaves the hotel, looking for him. But after a hotel staffer makes a call, the captain of the ship that brough her to the Bahamas catches up to her, and one of his crew grabs her from behind. And when John B returns to the hotel the next morning, one of the crew members — her name, we learn, is Cleo — informs him that his girlfriend is gone. John B threatens her, but she whips out a knife and manhandles him seven ways to Sunday but ultimately chooses not to slice him, mocking him by saying, “You’re too pretty to cut.” Cleo brings John B to where the captain is holding Sarah hostage. They offer him the gold from their backpack — “143,000 reasons to let us go,” Sarah says — and he takes it… but then informs that that that is his rescue fee, and he wants the bounty for turning them in to the police. So John B blurts out that there’s a buttload of gold at Ward’s island home, and Sarah can lead them to it. IS JOHN B CAUGHT? So she does. But while John B, Sarah and the crew are in the vacation home, Ward gets an alert on his phone from his front-door security system. Just as the rental cops are arriving to check things out, Sarah enters her birthday into the safe and it opens And yep, it’s really full of all of the Royal Merchant booty. When the captain realizes that they’re about to get caught, he locks John B and Sarah in the house and he and his crew get away. Eventually, John B is Spider-Man-ing all over the roof and Sarah is sneaking around to a small cove at the back of the property. But then the wily captain and his men take the boat she was planning to use as a getaway vehicle, and John B gets captured and beat by the security guards. The guards FaceTime Ward, who demands to see the face of the person who broke into his home. And as the guards haul John B’s face up and bring the phone around… the episode cuts to black! Cela fait tellement débrouillard de dire qu'ils ont 16 ans alors qu'en réalité ils en ont 22-23 ans. Jamais des ados de cet âge n'auraient ces réactions. Bref, la S1 est vraiment pas mal jusqu'au 2/3 de la saison. Après le scénario rame pour mettre un coup de pression pour relancer la machine. Sauf que le coup de pression il y en a 2 par épisodes. Toujours aussi dépaysante grâce à ses sublimes décors estivaux, cette nouvelle saison d’ Outer Banks » est une fois de plus très plaisante. Entre une cavale de tous les dangers et une quête vers un nouveau trésor, les palpitantes aventures de nos Pogues sont constamment rythmées de rebondissements et d’action qu’on reste évidemment captivé le long des dix épisodes. Avec plusieurs enjeux à la clé, les personnages affrontent de nouveaux comme d’anciens adversaires dans une intrigue plutôt bien ficelée. Cependant, la série ne se renouvelle finalement qu’assez peu, avec les mêmes enjeux et les mêmes dénouements, cette deuxième saison se répète et s’avère beaucoup moins surprenante que prévue. Je m'attendais à voir une énième série pour ados sans grand intérêt mais honnêtement j'ai beaucoup aimé. Je me suis bien prise au jeu de la chasse au trésor et je trouve que les personnages sont bien construits big up aux acteurs qui correspondent très bien aux perso je trouve ! Bref, j'ai passé un bon moment et j'ai hâte de voir ce que cela va donner pour la saison 2 Enorme déception. C'est mou, c'est prévisible, le casting est décevant et peu cohérent avec l'âge supposé des personnages pour certains. Et c'est malheureusement renouvelé !! Netflix renouvelle officiellement la série pour une saison 2. En dépit d’une bande d’annonce peu séduisante, la série nous surprend par une intrigue d’aventure qui nous embarque dans un voyage palpitant à la recherche d’un trésor perdu. À la fois originale et rafraîchissante, Outer Banks change les codes des séries US ados en privilégiant une ambiance estivale et un décor paradisiaque qu’une typique ambiance lycéenne, qui est loin de nous déplaire. Des épisodes progressifs en rebondissement et en suspense, des personnages attachants et un très bon casting pour qu’Outer Banks a tout pour convaincre un maximum.
